Outdoor signs

This is the sign you’ve been looking for.

Outdoor signage is like your business’s way of waving at potential customers—if it’s inviting and easy to spot, people are more likely to say hello back. These signs tell the world who you are, what you offer, and why you’re worth checking out. Plus, it works 24/7, rain or shine, without ever asking for a coffee break. So, make sure your signage does the talking while you focus on delivering the goods!

Outdoor signs FAQ

Generally speaking, outdoor signs fall into three categories:

  1. Monument or freestanding fixed signs
  2. Freestanding changeable signs
  3. Mounted signs

Our support team will go over the options for outdoor signs and match you with the best one.

Monument signs are self-contained and often very large.

If you are interested in this type of sign you will need to work with a sign fabricator. Your architect or construction team can usually help. YellowDog does not create monument signs, but ask your account manager for a referral.

Freestanding changeable signs are self-contained and, as the name suggests, stand on their own. No wall-mounting or hanging required. These signs have individual slide-outs—removable cells that you can (you guessed it) slide out and replace to update information, highlight new tenants, or promote a new campaign.

Standard slide-outs are made of Lexan or sign-grade aluminum. Back-lit signs are made of a different material that allows the light of the sign to show through. We’ll work with you to find the right material for your brand new freestanding sign or slide-out replacements (up to 4’ x 10’).

Mounted signs can range anywhere from a simple vinyl banner, to cut vinyl lettering to aluminum.

Factors to consider include:

  • The rules! Many municipalities and properties have very specific rules about signage. Check with your landlord on what is allowed to help narrow down your choices.
  • Budget
  • Access
  • Turnaround time
  • Projected length of use (temporary or permanent)

While YellowDog does the printing, outdoor signs often require a specialized installer. So factor that into your budget and timeline. We can recommend trusted partners for installation.

You’ll also need to consider access—the ability of the installer to get to where they need to do the installation. Many sign installs require a bucket truck to reach the desired area. Bushes or uneven surfaces near the building can interfere with safe access. Get ahead of these potential obstacles with a site visit before the sign is created.

A vinyl banner is the most affordable outdoor sign. Just don’t forget to factor in the installation cost. We always recommend a site visit to get an accurate estimate.
